Ever since returning to office in 2024, Donald Trump has doubled down on his “deep state” delusion—firing civil servants, silencing opposition, and weaponizing paranoia. But the only thing more dangerous than the fantasy is the reality of what he’s doing with it.
Ever since Donald Trump clawed his way back into the White House in 2024, he’s treated the presidency like a personal vendetta. And leading his list of imaginary enemies is his favorite boogeyman: the so-called deep state—a catch-all term he throws around anytime someone has the audacity to tell him “no.”
In the first hundred days of his second term, Trump signed a jaw-dropping 141 executive orders, many of which target what he claims is “deep state resistance” within the federal government. What’s that look like in practice? Try gutting entire departments, firing experienced civil servants, and handing more power to loyalists and opportunists who wouldn’t recognize the Constitution if it smacked them upside the head.
He’s reinstated Schedule F, a dangerous executive order that lets him reclassify thousands of nonpartisan federal employees and replace them with hand-picked loyalists—basically turning the federal workforce into a MAGA cult convention. Gone are the days of experience, qualifications, or independence. Loyalty is the new job requirement.
And if that wasn’t cartoonishly dystopian enough, he also created the Department of Government Efficiency—yes, DOGE. And who’s running it? None other than Elon Musk, Under his leadership, DOGE has already begun dismantling agencies that Trump deems “bloated,” including the Department of Education, which is being carved up like leftover Thanksgiving turkey.
According to Trump’s Truth Social rants, this is all part of a grand plan to “demolish the deep state.” He doesn’t hide it. He brags about it. As if burning down functioning government systems makes him some kind of hero instead of a pyromaniac with a Twitter addiction and a messiah complex.
But let’s not pretend this is new behavior. Trump has been obsessed with the “deep state” for years, mostly because it makes a great excuse for failure.
Rewind the Tape: Trump’s Deep State Delusions, Volume I .
Remember back in 2020, when Trump blamed the deep state at the FDA for delaying COVID vaccine trials? He claimed:
“The deep state, or whoever, over at the FDA is making it very difficult for drug companies to get people in order to test the vaccines and therapeutics. Obviously, they are hoping to delay the answer until after November 3rd.”
Translation: “Science is hard, so I’m going to yell conspiracy and hope you forget I downplayed the virus for months.”
Or how about when he accused the Post Office of rigging the 2020 election? He tweeted that mail-in ballots would “lead to massive electoral fraud,” conveniently ignoring that his own administration confirmed the election was safe and secure.
And let’s not forget when he called FBI agents “scum” in 2019 after they investigated his Russian connections, despite the Inspector General finding no political bias. In Trump World, law enforcement is only credible when it kisses his ring.
Now, in his second term, he’s not just whining about the deep state. He’s actively gutting the federal government based on the idea that everyone who isn’t with him is against him—and probably committing treason.
Let’s Talk Treason (Again)
Trump’s loose definition of “treason” is basically “anyone who disagrees with me.” He’s accused James Comey, John Brennan, even Barack Obama of orchestrating deep state plots against him.
His evidence? Spoiler: there isn’t any. But that hasn’t stopped him from repeating these claims to anyone who will listen (or is trapped in a Truth Social echo chamber). And it’s not just the old guard he’s going after. Career diplomats, policy experts, public health officials—anyone with a spine—are being purged or muzzled. This isn’t about rooting out corruption. It’s about consolidating power and surrounding himself with yes-men and sycophants who treat him like a king instead of a public servant.
So What’s the Real Deep State?
It’s not a secret cabal of bureaucrats. It’s not some underground resistance pulling the strings. The real danger isn’t hidden—it’s right out in the open. It’s Donald Trump weaponizing paranoia to dismantle democracy.
He’s not exposing a shadow government. He’s building one. He’s creating his own version of a deep state—one where loyalty to him trumps loyalty to the country.
