Work, doctors, tech, and social media all speak the same language these days: acronyms. From LOL to SOB, it feels like life is one giant alphabet soup. Here is my sarcastic guide to the madness, complete with a cheat sheet at the end so you do not have to pretend you know what they all mean.
So I get this FYI from a CEO asking for my ETA ASAP, and of course I’m like WTF. My brain goes into IDK mode while HR says use PTO but the CFO wants you on Zoom for the Q&A about ROI. Seriously, WTF.
At your office, it is even worse. Your boss wants an ETA ASAP, your manager is talking ROI in the morning meeting, and HR reminds you about your unused PTO, but if you dare take it they will flood you with FYIs about everything you missed. Then there is that dreaded Q&A where no one has an IDK moment because apparently everyone is fluent in acronym-speak except you. WTF.
Online, it is a circus. You post a pic and someone comments LOL while another drops a SMH because they have FOMO and your so-called BFF replies NVM with a passive-aggressive IMO/IMHO. Then they toss in ICYMI like it is breaking news. WTF.
Doctors are just as bad. They tell you your A1C is high, your BP is low, you might have CFS, plus a little DDD, and if you complain about being short of breath the chart just says SOB (which feels way too accurate). Add in the annual EKG, MRI, or CT scan and by the end you are in the ICU just trying to figure out the alphabet. WTF.
Tech is alphabet soup too. Want to check a URL? Better know your HTTP/HTTPS, hook up to Wi-Fi, run a VPN, and save that GIF before your DM crashes. By the time you reboot the OS, all you can say is OMG WTF IDK LOL.
And then there is social media. People shouting YOLO, throwing up a TBT, confessing TBH, or oversharing with TMI until you just scroll by with a silent WTF.
So here is my TL;DR. Life in 2025 is a never-ending game of acronym bingo. We are not communicating, we are abbreviating ourselves into extinction. And if you do not speak acronym, well, BRB while the rest of us spiral into WTF forever.
